The project
HMAS Harman is a Royal Australian Navy establishment on the outskirts of Canberra. Under John Holland as head contractor, UCBC designed, supplied and built 1,600 square metres of retaining wall as part of the works on the base, completing in 2013.
What the site demanded
Defence estate work runs to a different rhythm from a commercial site: base access, escorted movements, and inspection records that satisfy the head contractor's quality system and the Commonwealth's. Our crews and plant travelled from Sydney and worked to that regime for the duration.
Why it matters
Alongside Blamey Barracks at Kapooka, HMAS Harman is one of two Defence establishments where our walls stand. For estimators, that is evidence of a subcontractor that has been through Defence induction, security and quality processes and delivered on programme.
