Stacked rock and boulder walls
Large rock and boulders, selected and placed by excavator into a battered gravity wall. Stacked rock gives a natural finish on estate batters, creek lines and landscape work, and it uses the same plant and operators that place our precast block walls.

Selection and placement
A rock wall is only as good as the rock and the operator. We select rock with flat bearing faces and a suitable size range for the wall height, then place each piece by excavator so it bears on the rock below and leans into the bank. Fines and smaller rock lock the larger pieces; the finished wall stands on mass and interlock.
Where it suits
Stacked rock is at its best on estates and public open space, where a natural finish is wanted along a batter or a drainage reserve. Where rock is already on site from the excavation, it is also economical. It is not the answer for vertical walls, tight boundaries or walls carrying structures.
Design
Batter, rock size and wall height are set for the site, and taller walls are engineered like any other gravity structure. Drainage is inherent in the wall, but a subsoil drain at the base is still included where water is expected.
